Referrals

Referrals

Patients are welcome to self-refer. Private health insurance rebates may apply depending on the particular cover.  Please check with your private health insurer to enquire about rebates for Psychology.

Medicare rebates are available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year if you are referred by a GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician under the Better Access scheme.  Your referring doctor must provide a written referral and is also required to review your progress after the first six sessions. Please talk to your referring practitioner or contact a Psychologist from the Antenatal and Postnatal Psychology Network to find out more.

It can feel daunting to talk to your GP about mental health concerns.  Dr Grant Blashki is a practising GP and Associate Professor at the Nossal Institute for Global Health, University of Melbourne. He shares some tips for how to discuss your concerns with your GP.
