difficult diagnoses
Diagnoses of fetal (in pregnancy) or neonatal (after birth) anomalies can be extremely stressful for new parents. Diagnoses can come with more questions than answers, and can cause great uncertainty and fear for the well-being of the child and for a future life with unexpected challenges. Difficult decisions can be required involving genetic testing, termination of pregnancy, and implications for future pregnancies. A multitude of conflicting emotions can be present. Our psychologists can assist women and couples to process their feelings of shock, loss, fear, stress and anxiety, and can facilitate an unbiased decision-making process when required.
